Train passenger arrested after striking deputy in ticket dispute at Stafford commuter lot
Stafford County, VA — A disturbance aboard a commuter train at the Brooke Road lot led to a physical altercation and felony charges after a passenger refused to exit and struck a deputy attempting to remove him, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred Wednesday morning, at the 1721 Brooke Road commuter lot. At approximately 8:11 a.m., Deputy E. L. Jones responded to the scene after train staff reported a disruptive passenger who did not possess a valid ticket.
Train personnel had requested the individual exit the train, but he repeatedly refused. When Deputy Jones made contact, the subject continued to resist commands. As he was finally exiting the train, the suspect allegedly struck Deputy Jones in the leg and continued resisting arrest.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Anthony Barbour of Washington, DC, was ultimately taken into custody and charged with felony assault on law enforcement, obstruction of justice, and trespassing. He was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held under a secured bond.
Authorities have not reported any injuries to Deputy Jones.
