Hackensack, NJ – Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced Thursday that Jhamir E. Brown, 29, of Passaic, has been charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses following a December shooting that left a 27-year-old man injured in Elmwood Park. A second individual, Darial P. Hunt, 24, of Paterson, was also charged in connection with the case after investigators found him in possession of hollow-point ammunition.
According to investigators, the incident occurred around 11:22 p.m. on December 17, 2025, on Donor Avenue in Elmwood Park. Police officers responding to reports of gunfire found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following a joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Elmwood Park Police Department, detectives identified Brown as the alleged shooter. He was arrested without incident in Wayne on January 21, 2026. Brown faces first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, and multiple weapons-related charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and possession for an unlawful purpose. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail pending court proceedings.
During the course of Brown’s arrest, detectives encountered Hunt, who was found with 9mm hollow-point bullets and taken into custody. Hunt was charged with possession of prohibited ammunition and released pending a future court date.
Prosecutor Musella commended the coordination between local and regional law enforcement, including the Elmwood Park Police Department, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, and police departments in Elizabeth, Wayne, and the Port Authority.
Musella emphasized that both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
