Pedestrian struck and killed in crash at busy Route 9 intersection in Absecon

ABSECON, NJ — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday night at a heavily trafficked intersection in Absecon, prompting a joint investigation by local and county authorities, police said.

Officers responded to the intersection of Route 9 (New Road) and California Avenue at approximately 7:38 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian crash. Upon arrival, responders confirmed the individual had suffered fatal injuries.

The driver involved in the incident remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to the Absecon Police Department. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

The crash is being investigated by the Absecon Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit along with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit.

As a result of the investigation and cleanup, traffic was significantly disrupted in the area for nearly five hours Tuesday night.
