FREDERICK, MD — Maryland State Police are currently investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred this afternoon in Frederick County. The incident took place shortly before 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of US Route 15 and Catoctin Furnace Road.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Toyota 4Runner, traveling northbound in the first lane of US-15, struck 64-year-old Scott Cornell Binde of Alexandria, Virginia, as he was crossing from west to east at the intersection. Binde was declared deceased at the scene by Frederick County Fire Rescue Services.

The driver of the 4Runner remained at the scene following the accident. Authorities have stated that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The northbound section of US Route 15 was closed for approximately three hours to allow for an investigation and cleanup.
