HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Game Commission is honoring the service of retired K-9 Storm, a veteran law enforcement dog whose work helped solve hundreds of wildlife violation cases across the Commonwealth.
K-9 Storm entered service in April 2015, partnering with Special Investigator SSgt. Larry Hergenroeder in the Bureau of Wildlife Protection. Together, they served both the Northwest and Southwest Regions, becoming part of the agency’s first Overt Special Investigator K-9 team. Storm continued to assist in investigations in the Northwest Region even after new K-9s joined the ranks in 2020, remaining on duty until her retirement on June 30, 2024.

Under Hergenroeder’s supervision, Storm played a vital role in uncovering evidence in wildlife crimes, locating illegal game, and protecting natural resources. Her career achievements earned her recognition in publications including Pennsylvania Game News, Keystone Wardens, International Game Warden Magazine, and Just Labs.
In a statement, the Bureau described Storm as “a remarkable partner that was handled by one, cared for by two, and loved by many.” Officials said her loyalty, skill, and dedication left an enduring legacy within the agency and among those who had the privilege of working with her.
The Game Commission extended its condolences to SSgt. Hergenroeder and all who knew Storm, noting that her contributions to Pennsylvania’s wildlife enforcement community “will never be forgotten.”
