Pittsburgh Man Charged in McKees Rocks Homicide

Pittsburgh, PA – Allegheny County Police have charged a Pittsburgh resident in connection with a recent homicide in McKees Rocks.

At 10:38 PM on Thursday, County 9-1-1 was alerted to a shooting incident in the 300 block of Ella Street. Responding first responders discovered an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as 34-year-old William Hopkins, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. McKees Rocks Police sought assistance from the Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit, prompting detectives to begin an investigation.

Investigators concluded that the shooting occurred outside a residence on Ella Street. By conducting witness interviews and reviewing surveillance footage, detectives identified the suspect as 28-year-old Richard Horne.

On Wednesday, detectives located Horne in the Hazelwood section of Pittsburgh and took him into custody without incident. Horne now faces multiple charges, including criminal homicide and possession of a firearm by a person not permitted to possess one. He was transferred to the Allegheny County Jail pending a preliminary arraignment.
