Retired Voorhees Police K9 Brutus served the department and community for seven years before spending retirement with his longtime handler’s family
VOORHEES, N.J. — A police dog known throughout Voorhees Township for his service, public appearances, and community outreach has died, prompting tributes from the department he served and the residents who came to know him over the years.
The Voorhees Police Department announced Thursday the death of retired K9 Brutus, who served alongside officers from 2018 until his retirement on July 14, 2025.
During his law enforcement career, K9 Brutus earned numerous awards and unit citations while assisting the department in carrying out its public safety mission. Beyond his police work, Brutus became a familiar face at community events and demonstrations, where department officials said his friendly demeanor regularly drew attention from residents.
Following his retirement, Brutus spent his remaining years at home with his handler, Sgt. Bordi, and the Bordi family.

In announcing his passing, the department described Brutus as a loyal companion who dedicated his life to serving others. The department lowered its flag in his honor to recognize his years of service.
Police officials said Brutus will be remembered not only for his work as a K9 officer but also for the connections he built throughout the community during public appearances and events.
The department thanked Brutus for his service and noted that he will be missed by officers and residents across Voorhees Township.
