Police Seek Hit-and-Run Driver in Fatal Accident

Newport News, VA – The Newport News Police Department is searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident on Saturday. At around 6:15 a.m., officers arrived at Harpersville Road and Jefferson Ave., where they found a 74-year-old man, Dennis Gene Clarkson, unconscious on the roadway.

Preliminary investigations indicated Mr. Clarkson was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene. Mr. Clarkson was pronounced dead at the location of the incident.

Authorities seek information from the driver of a white sedan seen traveling west on Harpersville Road just before the accident. Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or incident is encouraged to submit tips anonymously via P3Tips.com or by calling 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Tipsters may be eligible for a reward up to $1,500 for information leading to an arrest in this case. The police department has released video footage in hopes of identifying the driver involved.
