November 20, 2021

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating the November 5 attempted armed carjacking that occurred in the 8000 block of 13th St. in downtown Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance video of the two male suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

At approximately 5:35 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the location for the report of an armed carjacking that just occurred.

The investigation by detectives determined that the two suspects arrived at the location in a light blue 2007-2012 Honda CRV bearing unknown Maryland license plate. The suspects exited the vehicle and approached the victim who was walking to her vehicle that was parked on 13th St. One of the suspects pointed a black handgun at the victim and demanded her car key and personal property. The victim refused to comply with the suspect’s demands and screamed for help. At that point, the same suspect struck the victim on the head with the handgun and took her personal property. The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle traveling southbound on Georgia Ave.  The suspects were unsuccessful in stealing the victim’s vehicle.

Detectives reviewed the surveillance footage of a nearby business and obtained general description of the suspects and their vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding these suspects or this vehicle is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
