Poll shows new jersey parents want say in children's education

TRENTON, NJ – Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco has sharply criticized New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Trenton Democrats, accusing them of eroding parental rights in education.

The criticism comes in light of a recent FDU poll indicating that a majority of parents seek greater influence over their children’s schooling. “It is clear from the FDU poll that parents want a say in their kid’s education,” Bucco said.

The Senator added that “Since Murphy has been in office, parental rights have been significantly minimized.”

In his statement, Bucco lambasted the current administration and Trenton Democrats for neglecting to address this issue effectively.

“The Attorney General and Trenton Democrats have supported this slow erosion of parental rights and have refused to stand against this overreach,” he said. He claims that the Democrats have only provided “lip service” on these issues.

Adding to his point, Bucco cited the inaction of the Senate Education Committee, which he noted has not met since March 2.

“That’s 230 days without any direction from the Democrat-controlled Senate,” Bucco pointed out. He contends that the absence of meetings and subsequent inaction shows a lack of genuine concern from Democrats for issues that New Jersey parents clearly care about.

The Senate Republican Leader affirmed that Republicans stand ready to address these educational concerns and have already sponsored reforms aimed at increasing parental involvement in education. “New Jerseyans want these issues addressed immediately and Republicans stand ready to provide solutions,” he concluded.
