Lakewood, NJ – Power has been restored to nearly 2,000 Jersey Central Power & Light customers after downed wires caused a widespread outage Tuesday afternoon in Lakewood.

The outage began at approximately 2:30 p.m., leaving about 2,000 customers without electricity and knocking out multiple traffic signals along Cedarbridge Avenue. Portions of the roadway were closed while utility crews responded to make repairs.

Downed wires disrupted traffic

The outage also affected traffic lights in the area, creating significant delays for motorists traveling through one of Lakewood’s busiest corridors.

Authorities urged drivers to avoid Cedarbridge Avenue while repair crews worked safely around the damaged utility lines and restored electrical service.

Service restored Tuesday evening

JCP&L had initially estimated power would be restored by 6 p.m. Utility crews completed repairs Tuesday evening, restoring electricity to affected customers.

The cause of the downed wires has not been announced, and no injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Traffic returned to normal after the roadway was reopened following the completion of repairs.
