Prince Georges County Police mourn loss of veteran Sergeant Benjamin Habershon

LANDOVER, MD – The Prince George’s County Police Department is mourning the loss of Sergeant Benjamin Habershon, a respected 24-year veteran of the force who passed away on November 4.

Sergeant Habershon, badge number 2654, joined the department in February 2001 as part of Session 95 and served in multiple divisions throughout his distinguished career.

He was most recently assigned to the department’s Real Time Crime Center and was known for his professionalism, compassion, and commitment to the community.

Throughout more than two decades with PGPD, Sergeant Habershon served in a variety of roles, including assignments in Landover’s District III and the Forensic Science Division. He earned multiple awards of merit and unit citations, reflecting his dedication to both law enforcement and public service.

Remembered for kindness and community spirit

Colleagues remembered Sergeant Habershon for his warmth, humor, and his passion for giving back. He was an active volunteer in community programs and especially enjoyed participating in the department’s annual Toys for Tots events, which he supported enthusiastically each holiday season.

A legacy of family and service

Sergeant Habershon is survived by his wife, daughter, and son. The department expressed its condolences to his family, friends, and fellow officers, asking the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

The Prince George’s County Police Department described him as “a cherished member of our family whose legacy of kindness, service, and laughter will never be forgotten.”
