Protection order was not enough to stop Depew husband from killing his ex wife

DEPEW, NY – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 38-year-old Sayed Nasir of Depew was arraigned this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Mark A. Montour on an indictment charging him with the following offenses:

  • One count of Murder in the First Degree (Class “A-I” felony)
  • One count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony)
  • One count of Aggravated Criminal Contempt (Class “D” felony)

It is alleged that on November 20, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the defendant unlawfully entered the residence of his ex-wife, knowingly in violation of a no-contact order of protection, on North Creek Drive in the Village of Depew with the intent to commit a crime. It is further alleged that once inside the home, the defendant stabbed his ex-wife multiple times with the intent to cause her death. The victim, 33-year-old Nazeefa D. Tahir, died at the scene.

At the time of the alleged crime, the defendant was on probation for a domestic violence-related conviction involving his ex-wife. As part of the sentence, a no-contact order of protection was issued for the victim, which remained in effect until October 2026.

The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree (Class “A” misdemeanor) on October 8, 2021. He was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to participate in a 26-week domestic violence program.

Nasir is scheduled to return on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. He continues to remain held without bail.

This case is being prosecuted by Chief Gary Hackbush of the Homicide Unit and Assistant District Attorney Cathleen Roemer of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.

DA Flynn commends the Depew Police Department for their work in the investigation.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
