Reckless Driver Arrested in Wildwood Crest After High-Speed Police Chase

WILDWOOD CREST, NJ – A high-speed pursuit ended in the arrest of a driver identified as Kadircan Akilli on Sunday, May 26, 2024. The incident began at approximately 12:39 pm when S/O Castillo observed a black Chevrolet Camaro engaging in reckless driving behaviors at the intersection of Heather Rd and Atlantic Ave.

Despite S/O Castillo activating his emergency lights and siren, the Camaro continued to drive erratically, spinning its tires and accelerating rapidly through multiple intersections, including Cresse and Atlantic Avenues and towards Ocean Ave. The vehicle failed to yield to the emergency vehicle, further endangering public safety by drifting through intersections.

The chase concluded in the Wildwood Convention Center parking lot where S/O Castillo was able to safely conduct a traffic stop with the assistance of additional officers. Kadircan Akilli was arrested without further incident.

Akilli now faces multiple charges including Eluding, Careless Driving, Failure to Yield Right of Way to Emergency Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Improper Turn at Traffic Light, and Failure to Stop and Yield to Emergency Vehicle. This arrest followed numerous prior contacts over the weekend with officers from both Wildwood Crest and Wildwood for various traffic offenses.

Akilli was lodged in Cape May County Correctional Facility in line with the Attorney General Guidelines associated with the Criminal Justice Bail Reform Policies and Directives.
