Pittsburgh Police Arrest Three in Connection with Vehicle Thefts and Armed Robberies

PITTSBURGH, PA – Pittsburgh Police have apprehended three males linked to a series of vehicle thefts and armed home invasion robberies in and around Pittsburgh. The arrests were made after a police operation on May 28, 2024, following vehicle thefts that occurred overnight between May 27 and May 28.

The operation led Narcotics and Vice detectives to a stolen Toyota Sienna located unoccupied on Rentz Way at Grimes Street in the Zone 6 area, where recent burglaries and armed incidents were reported. After surveilling the vehicle, detectives observed three males approaching it. As two entered the vehicle and the third approached, detectives intervened, leading to a chase when the suspects attempted to flee the scene.

Despite the attempt to escape, all three were captured following a foot pursuit. Police recovered two firearms during the arrests, one of which was previously reported stolen in Pittsburgh.

The suspects include two teenagers, ages 16 and 17, who face charges of Resisting Arrest, Receiving Stolen Property, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Flight to Avoid Apprehension, and Possession of a Firearm Under 18. The 17-year-old was released to his father, while the 16-year-old was placed in juvenile detention. Additionally, 19-year-old Jose Rivera-Montes was charged with Resisting Arrest and Flight to Avoid Apprehension.

All three were transported to police headquarters for further questioning as investigations continue into their involvement in the broader pattern of criminal activity.
