The 12th ticket in the pack delivered the game’s top prize
CHANTILLY, VA — A Bristow man says his mother gave him the number 12 in a dream — then the 12th Scratch-Off ticket in a pack at a Chantilly convenience store delivered a $1 million Virginia Lottery top prize.
The player purchased the winning Payday Tripler ticket at Prime Mart, located at 4300 Chantilly Shopping Center #1K in Chantilly.
When claiming the prize, he told Virginia Lottery officials about a dream involving his mother and the number 12.
The Payday Tripler ticket he purchased happened to be the 12th ticket in its pack.
That ticket carried the game’s $1 million top prize.
“I was very surprised,” he told Lottery officials. “It feels good.”
The winner chose to remain anonymous, which Virginia law allows Lottery prize winners to do.
Payday Tripler offers prizes ranging from $20 to $1 million. The Virginia Lottery said this was the second of the game’s three $1 million top prizes to be claimed, leaving one remaining.
The odds of winning the $1 million top prize are 1 in 408,000, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.44.
The Bristow resident faced another decision after his seven-figure win.
He could receive the full $1 million through payments over 30 years or select a one-time cash option of $476,000 before taxes.
He chose the $476,000 cash option.
The winner told Lottery officials he plans to visit his home country and save the remainder of his winnings.
The ticket was purchased in Fairfax County, which received more than $54.1 million in Virginia Lottery proceeds for K-12 education during the last fiscal year.
Statewide, the Virginia Lottery generated more than $914 million for K-12 education in Fiscal Year 2026.
