One powerful turn of The Big Spin Wheel delivered a five-figure payday
BALTIMORE, MD — A retired Baltimore nurse who worried she might not be strong enough to send a massive lottery wheel around three times instead powered it through on her first attempt — and watched it land on a $60,000 prize.
The Maryland Lottery said the woman, who chose to remain anonymous and is using the nickname Puddin’, became the seventh player to visit Lottery headquarters in Baltimore for a shot at The Big Spin Wheel.
Players spinning the wheel must make it complete at least three rotations. The Baltimore woman was concerned she might struggle to meet that requirement.
Instead, she sent it around successfully on her first try.
“I thought the wheel would be heavier than it was,” she said, according to the Maryland Lottery.
Her trip to the wheel began after another Maryland Lottery player’s success caught her attention.
Puddin’ had watched a video featuring a Frederick mother who scored $50,000 on The Big Spin Wheel in July. The retired nurse decided she wanted to try the game herself.
“If she can win $50,000, I can win that too,” she told the Lottery.
She began buying THE BIG SPIN Scratch-Off tickets and eventually uncovered a “SPIN” symbol.
A retailer scanned the ticket and informed her that she had earned a chance to spin the wheel at Maryland Lottery headquarters for a prize ranging from $50,000 to $250,000.
Her spin ultimately stopped at $60,000.
Puddin’ told the Lottery she plans to use part of the money to pay bills and put the remainder toward renovations to her home.
The winning ticket was purchased at Dutch Liquors, located at 2325 Cleanleigh Drive in Parkville.
The Baltimore County retailer will receive a $600 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the ticket.
THE BIG SPIN launched in March. Players who uncover a “SPIN” symbol can scan the ticket at a Lottery retailer or through the My Lottery Rewards app.
Most of the symbols result in prizes ranging from $10 to $250, but eight tickets in the game give players the opportunity to spin The Big Spin Wheel at Lottery headquarters for prizes between $50,000 and $250,000.
Following Puddin’s win, the Lottery said one of those eight wheel-spin tickets remained unclaimed.
The game also offers instant prizes. At the time of the Lottery’s announcement, one $50,000 instant top prize remained, along with thousands of prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
