SWAT entered a Woodlawn home searching for 18-year-old Christian Hursey
BALTIMORE, MD — A single gunshot from the basement of a Woodlawn home brought the search for a teenager wanted in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jada Sellers to a fatal end Thursday night, with officers finding 18-year-old Christian Hursey suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Baltimore Police said.
Members of the Baltimore Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the Baltimore County Police Department’s SWAT Team went to the Woodlawn residence at approximately 8:30 p.m. to execute a search and seizure warrant.
Police said officers heard one gunshot coming from the basement after entering the home.
Officers immediately went to the basement and found Hursey with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Baltimore Police.
Hursey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baltimore Police said Hursey was wanted in connection with the July 31 shooting death of Sellers in the 700 block of Lyndhurst Street.
Police did not provide further details in Friday’s update about Sellers’ killing or the evidence connecting Hursey to the case.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley called the outcome a “tragic ending to an already tragic case” involving the deaths of two young people.
Worley extended the department’s sympathies to Sellers’ family and others affected by the two deaths, noting that the circumstances surrounding them were different.
“Both families are now left to grieve the devastating loss of two young people,” Worley said.
