FORT WASHINGTON, MD. – A Fort Washington retiree who has played the Maryland Lottery for more than 15 years hit a $50,000 Pick 5 prize, then turned to the Lottery app — and his wife — to make sure the win was real.
The Prince George’s County man won by matching a straight-bet combination in the Aug. 27 evening Pick 5 drawing. He purchased the winning ticket at the Exxon gas station at 7713 Allentown Road in Fort Washington.
“I was stunned and shocked,” the retiree told Maryland Lottery officials when he claimed his $50,000 prize Monday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. After scanning the ticket on the Lottery app, he said, “I was so happy I couldn’t believe I won.”

Lottery App Reveals $50K Pick 5 Win

Although he occasionally plays Pick 3 and Pick 4, Pick 5 became his favorite after an earlier play delivered a prize worth a few hundred dollars.
When choosing numbers, he often turns to important dates or numbers that catch his attention during the day. That routine paid off with the Aug. 27 evening drawing.
