LINDEN, N.J. — A Roselle man has been arrested and charged in connection with the armed robbery of a Linden convenience store last May, according to police.

Nigel Cummings, 29, faces charges including first-degree robbery, fourth-degree possession of a weapon, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on May 15 at the New Way Supermarket, located at 816 E. St. George Ave. Authorities said Cummings walked behind the store counter while holding a knife, grabbed the clerk, and demanded cash from the register. The clerk was unharmed during the encounter.

A follow-up investigation by the Linden Police Detective Bureau led to Cummings being identified as the suspect.

He was taken into custody on May 30 in Upper Merion, Pennsylvania, and is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail pending extradition to New Jersey.

“As we have repeatedly demonstrated, violence and lawlessness will never be tolerated here in Linden,” said Police Chief David Hart. “I want to thank the Officers and Detectives involved in this case for their diligent work to identify the defendant, along with our law enforcement partners who took him into custody.”

Cummings will face extradition proceedings before returning to Union County for prosecution.
