Parsippany, NJ — A morning trash pickup turned into a serious crash scene when a sanitation worker was struck and pinned between vehicles, suffering severe injuries.

The incident occurred around 7:03 a.m. Tuesday near Vail Road and Arnold Drive. Emergency calls and a radio transmission from a Department of Public Works garbage truck alerted authorities to the crash.

Responding crews found a 48-year-old sanitation worker pinned between a garbage truck and a Nissan Altima. Officials said the worker had been loading trash into the rear of the truck when the car struck it from behind.

First responders provided lifesaving care before transporting the victim to Morristown Medical Center with severe injuries to his lower extremities.

The 29-year-old driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
