Second juvenile arrested in connection with october forest fire in evesham

EVESHAM, NJ — A second juvenile has been arrested and charged in connection with the October 30 forest fire that burned 52 acres of land near Sycamore Drive and the Berlin Township border, the Evesham Police Department announced on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old male from Marlton, NJ, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was taken into custody on November 19 and charged with second-degree aggravated arson and causing or risking widespread injury or damage. He is being held at the Middlesex Juvenile Detention Center, pending his first court appearance.

This follows the November 7 arrest of the first juvenile suspect, who was similarly charged. Authorities have not released details about their potential connection but confirmed the extensive investigation was carried out with assistance from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service and the Evesham Fire Department.

The October 30 fire required several days to contain and burned 52 acres without damaging structures. A separate fire on November 7 in the same vicinity consumed 375 acres and is under investigation to determine if it is related to the earlier blaze.
