Shelter dog Sonny still waiting as adoption search drags on

Manahawkin, NJ – A four-year-old dog named Sonny remains without a permanent home despite being available for adoption at the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter, according to a post shared by Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter.

The post, published on social media, showed Sonny reacting after learning he had not yet been adopted, a moment the group said reflected their own surprise that the dog is still waiting. Sonny has been at the shelter and is described by volunteers as people-friendly and comfortable around visitors.

Shelter representatives said Sonny is available to meet the public daily between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter. The facility is located at 360 Haywood Road in Manahawkin.

Friends of the shelter said Sonny is approximately four years old and has a calm, social demeanor. Volunteers noted that he responds well to attention and interaction during visiting hours.

The shelter continues to encourage potential adopters to visit in person to meet Sonny and other animals currently in care, emphasizing that walk-in visits are welcome during scheduled hours.
