Silver Spring man arrested in DC shooting after late-night dispute

August 15, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – A 24-year-old Maryland man has been arrested and charged in connection with a late-night shooting in Northeast Washington where multiple gunshots were fired at victims following an argument in May.

The incident took place on Monday, May 12, at approximately 11:50 p.m. in the 1900 block of Bennett Place NE, where police responded to reports of gunfire and found victims who reported that a suspect opened fire on them after a dispute.

The shooter fled the scene immediately after firing, and no injuries were reported.

The case remained under investigation for three months before police identified a suspect and issued an arrest warrant.

On Tuesday, August 12, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Nebiy Boreshe of Silver Spring, MD, who is now charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).

Police said the arrest was made pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant and involved coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies.

The shooting, though it did not result in injuries, is considered a serious gun-related assault and follows an ongoing trend of disputes escalating to firearm use in residential areas.

Boreshe is currently in custody pending further legal proceedings, and no additional suspects are being sought at this time, officials said.
