Suspect arrested weeks after stabbing inside Vermont Avenue establishment in Northwest DC
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that took place last month inside a business on Vermont Avenue in Northwest Washington, the Metropolitan Police Department announced.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on December 17, 2025. Officers from MPD’s Second District were dispatched to an area hospital after a man arrived with a stab wound. The victim, who had walked in for treatment, told investigators the attack happened during an argument inside an establishment in the 1000 block of Vermont Avenue, NW.
Police say a verbal dispute between the suspect and victim escalated, ending when the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
On January 4, 2026, officers patrolling in the Second District recognized the suspect in the 1200 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW, and placed him under arrest.
The suspect, identified as Shelton Brooks Elder of Northeast, D.C., has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (knife).
