Stafford County Sheriff addresses social media threats to schools

September 12, 2024

STAFFORD, Va. — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating social media threats directed at local schools but has determined that there is no credible threat, authorities said Wednesday. The messages, which circulated online, specifically mentioned middle schools in the area.

Law enforcement has investigated the state-wide rumors and concluded that there is no immediate danger to students or staff. However, the sheriff’s office emphasized that it will continue to monitor the situation and maintain heightened vigilance to ensure school safety.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office urged the community to report any suspicious activity or concerns to school officials or law enforcement. “We stand together against any threats to Stafford County schools and students,” the department said, encouraging people to contact School Resource Officers, administrators, or teachers if they see or hear anything of concern.

The sheriff’s office also expressed its appreciation for the strong relationship with Stafford County Public Schools in ensuring student safety.
