SMITHTOWN, NY – A Suffolk County Police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning when his patrol vehicle was struck from behind. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Route 25A at Oakside Road, where the officer was parked awaiting a tow truck for a separate crash.

The officer’s vehicle was hit by a 2020 Nissan Rogue, driven by 25-year-old Katelyn Lynch of Smithtown. At the time, the officer was handling the aftermath of an unrelated incident on Route 25 involving a driver charged with driving while intoxicated. Following the collision, the officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Lynch was arrested for driving while intoxicated and received medical treatment at the hospital before being released. She is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday, March 24.
