BELTSVILLE, MD — The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has charged 21-year-old Jose Hernandez Martinez with the murder of 70-year-old Lucas Pineda Cardona following a fatal stabbing incident in March.

The altercation occurred on the evening of March 10, around 9:00 PM, in the 11400 block of Queen Anne Avenue, Beltsville. Responding officers found Cardona inside a home, suffering from multiple stab wounds, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation indicates the stabbing resulted from a dispute between the victim and suspect, who were known to each other and shared the same residence.

Hernandez Martinez faces charges of first and second-degree murder among other related charges. With support from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, he was arrested in Pittsboro, North Carolina, on Tuesday and is currently awaiting extradition back to Prince George’s County.
