BRIDGEWATER TWP., NJ — Somerset County officials announced the arrest of Brett Clay, a 39-year-old field hockey coach from Flemington, New Jersey, for alleged sexual misconduct with a minor.
The Bridgewater Police Department, on March 27, reached out to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit concerning a claim involving Clay. He is accused of sending sexually explicit messages to a 17-year-old female athlete from a private field hockey program in Mount Olive, New Jersey. The teenager, who resides in Bridgewater, conveyed to detectives at the Child Advocacy Center that her interactions with Clay began through text messages. She disclosed that the messages took a sexual turn around late December 2023 or early January 2024, during which Clay purportedly offered her money for sexually explicit photos.
Following an extensive investigation by the Bridgewater Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit, Clay was apprehended without incident on March 28 in Raritan Township, New Jersey. He faces charges of 2nd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Minor and is currently held at the Somerset County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
