Gunman in D.C. apartment shooting charged with murder

WASHINGTON, DC – A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred last month in Northwest DC, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

On January 16 at approximately 2:31 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the Unit block of Ridge Square. Inside an apartment, they found 32-year-old Terell Cortez West of Northeast DC suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

An adult female at the location was also assaulted with a weapon and was treated on-site for minor injuries.

Police determined the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute.

On February 21, authorities arrested 34-year-old Maurice Ford of Northwest DC on an outstanding DC Superior Court warrant. He has been charged with second-degree murder while armed.
