Off-duty trooper shoots teen carjacking suspect at Yonkers gas station
Yonkers, NY — A carjacking attempt at a Yonkers gas station ended in gunfire when an off-duty state trooper shot a teenage suspect who allegedly tried to stab her and steal her vehicle.
The incident unfolded around 12:45 p.m. Sunday at a Mobil station on Kimball Avenue. Police said the trooper was refueling when a 17-year-old male approached, displayed a knife, and entered the driver’s seat of her vehicle.
Authorities said the trooper fired one shot, striking the suspect in the arm, with the bullet continuing into his torso. The suspect then drove the vehicle through a shed and fence before stopping near an apartment building on Midland Avenue.
He fled on foot but was quickly located by responding officers and taken into custody. A knife was recovered at the time of arrest.
Medical aid was provided at the scene before the suspect was transported to a hospital, where he is listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Due to state law, the suspect has not been publicly identified beyond being a 17-year-old Yonkers resident. He is expected to face multiple charges, including robbery and weapons offenses.
The investigation is being handled by the Yonkers Police Department’s Major Case Squad, while New York State Police are conducting an internal review.
