Teen girl groped on Manhattan subway as suspect flees into Union Square station

A 15-year-old girl was groped aboard a Manhattan subway train Wednesday morning, prompting a police investigation and a search for the suspect, who fled the scene at the busy Union Square station, authorities said.

According to the NYPD, the incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. on April 30 as the girl was riding a northbound “N” train near Union Square. An unidentified individual reportedly approached and grabbed the teenager’s buttocks without her consent.

The victim was not physically injured during the incident and reported the assault shortly afterward. Authorities said she was able to give a description of the suspect before he fled.

The suspect was last seen running toward the northbound “L” train platform within the Union Square station. Police described him as wearing a red sweatshirt and carrying a black backpack at the time of the incident.

NYPD seeking public assistance in identifying suspect

Transit officers and NYPD investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the station and train cars in an effort to identify the man involved. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday, and the investigation remains ongoing.

“There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident,” police noted in their report.

The Union Square station, one of the city’s busiest transit hubs, serves multiple lines and was crowded at the time of the alleged assault, police said.

The NYPD is actively investigating the case as they search for a man accused of groping a teen girl during the morning commute.
