Teen Severely Injured in Car Accident Receives Community Support Through Fundraiser

August 24, 2024

MANAHAWKIN, N.J. — A recent graduate of Pinelands High School is receiving an outpouring of support from the community after a life-altering car accident left him with serious injuries. Sam Parker, who was airlifted to a trauma ICU just hours after his high school graduation, is now in the process of adapting to a new reality as he begins his journey toward recovery, including the need for a prosthetic limb.

Family members, including his siblings Will and Sasha Parker, have organized a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help cover the extensive medical expenses Sam faces. The fundraiser, which has garnered significant attention, emphasizes the financial and emotional challenges the Parker family is navigating. “Anything would really help him and our family during this process,” the family wrote on the fundraiser page.

According to a recent update from Rene Parker, Sam’s mother and the fundraiser’s beneficiary,

Sam has received clearance to begin the prosthetic process.

However, the family is unsure how much of the cost will be covered by insurance. Prosthetics can range from $20,000 to $50,000, with the family aiming for a top-of-the-line option due to Sam’s active lifestyle and career aspirations.

Sam, who had just begun a vocational program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) for construction, hopes to continue his studies and pursue a career as a contractor specializing in either roofing or framing. The family is committed to ensuring that Sam receives a durable prosthetic that will allow him to thrive in his chosen field. “Thank you all for making this possible for him,” Rene Parker wrote, expressing deep gratitude for the community’s support.

The fundraiser has seen an encouraging response, with contributions helping to alleviate both the financial burden and emotional strain the family is experiencing. As the Parker family continues to navigate this difficult time, the community’s generosity remains a beacon of hope for Sam’s future.
