BRONX, NY – A violent robbery inside the Prospect Avenue subway station Monday evening left one teenager stabbed multiple times and another assaulted as he tried to call for help, police said.
According to the NYPD, the incident unfolded around 6:17 p.m. on the northbound platform of the “2” train line within the 40th Precinct and Transit District 12. An unidentified suspect approached an 18-year-old man, leading to a physical altercation. During the struggle, the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the body.
As a 19-year-old bystander attempted to dial 911, the suspect turned on him, punching and kicking him in the face and head while trying to snatch the victim’s cellphone. The attacker then fled the station on foot in an unknown direction.
The 18-year-old victim was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in stable condition. The bystander sustained bruising and swelling but declined further medical attention, authorities said.
Detectives are now searching for the suspect and reviewing surveillance footage from inside the subway station.
