Tesla vandal suspect ‘brainwashed’ by far-left rhetoric, police chief says

Tesla vandal suspect brainwashed by far left rhetoric police chief says

A woman caught on video scratching a Tesla in a parking lot in Minnesota has been identified, turned herself in, and will not face immediate charges — though authorities say political rhetoric may have influenced her actions.

Key Points

  • The suspect, a woman in her late 20s, voluntarily turned herself in with her family and cooperated with police.
  • Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said the suspect may have been “a victim” of divisive political rhetoric.
  • No charges have been filed at this time, but the case remains open with conditional oversight.

Chief Booker Hodges addressed the community in a video update, confirming the suspect had been identified following public tips and surveillance footage from last week. “They were brought in with their family. They’ve been fully cooperative,” Hodges said.

The vandalism incident, which involved a woman scratching a parked Tesla, gained attention after the video was circulated online. Hodges said the victim only wanted their car repaired and compensation, which has since been resolved.

“In Bloomington, you probably have never heard me utter these words,” Hodges said. “The suspect in this case may have been a victim… in terms of the rhetoric that’s being spewed out here by some of those in leadership.”

Hodges called on public officials to tone down divisive discourse, stating, “People should be able to drive whatever car they want without fear.”

Although formal charges were not immediately filed, the police chief said authorities are keeping the case open. “We’re going to hold those charges over their head just to ensure that they don’t do anything similar to this in the near future,” he said.

He concluded by reaffirming that damage to property would not be tolerated: “If you damage these cars or target people, we are going to arrest you.”
