Wawa ATM scuffle ends in robbery arrest as Newark man is extradited from Maryland

BEAR, DELAWARE — A Newark man was arrested this week in connection with a December strong-arm robbery at a Wawa ATM in Bear, after authorities tracked him across state lines to Maryland.

Key Points

  • A robbery occurred on December 2, 2024, at the Wawa on Pulaski Highway in Bear.
  • The suspect, Joshua Bostic, allegedly stole money after a physical struggle at an ATM.
  • Bostic was extradited from Maryland to Delaware and is being held on secured bond.

Delaware State Police responded to the Wawa at 1605 Pulaski Highway on December 2 at approximately 5:41 p.m. following a report of a robbery. According to police, the suspect approached a customer at the ATM inside the store and attempted to snatch the cash following the transaction. A struggle broke out, but the victim initially held onto the money.

As the victim tried to leave the store, the suspect followed him to the front entrance, leading to a second physical altercation. Police say the suspect then succeeded in grabbing an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot toward Salem Church Road. No injuries were reported.

Investigators used surveillance footage and additional evidence to identify the suspect as 30-year-old Joshua Bostic of Newark. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was located in Cecil County, Maryland.

On Thursday, Bostic was extradited to Delaware and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 for processing. He was formally charged and arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2.

Bail set and suspect held at Howard R. Young Correctional

Bostic faces charges related to the robbery and was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $2,600 secured bond.

According to police, “Through investigative means, detectives identified Joshua Bostic as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.”

Bostic remains in custody as court proceedings continue.
