Thieves snatching cash registers in boston shop scam spree

BOSTON, MA – A string of quick-strike robberies across several Boston neighborhoods has police warning businesses to stay alert.

Four stores were hit in the past week, all involving thieves who grabbed entire cash registers during staged transactions.

Detectives say the suspects posed as customers, waited for clerks to open the register, and then ripped it from the counter before fleeing.

No weapons were displayed in any of the robberies, according to the Boston Police Department.

Pattern spans multiple neighborhoods

Investigators linked the incidents to stores at 853 River Street and 59 Fairmount Avenue in Hyde Park, 739 Parker Street in Roxbury, and 186 Heath Street in Jamaica Plain. Each occurred under similar circumstances, leading police to believe the same person or group may be responsible.

Suspect dressed in black

The main suspect is described as wearing a black puffy jacket with the hood up, black pants, and a black surgical mask. Police say this consistent appearance was reported by employees in every case. Surveillance footage from several locations is being reviewed as the investigation continues.

Police urging tips from public

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the robberies to contact the Boston Police Department or dial 911 if they witness suspicious activity. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the CrimeStoppers Tip Line.

Detectives believe the suspects are targeting small businesses with low foot traffic and minimal security presence.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to prevent further thefts.
