Philadelphia police are investigating after three women were found shot to death inside a South Philadelphia residence Sunday evening in what investigators believe was a double homicide followed by a suicide.
PHILADELPHIA — Three women were found dead inside a South Philadelphia home Sunday evening in an apparent murder-suicide, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Officers from the department’s 3rd District responded at approximately 5:32 p.m. to a residential property in the 2800 block of South 10th Street following reports of a shooting inside the home.
When officers arrived, they discovered three adult women inside the residence. Authorities said each victim had suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.
Philadelphia Fire Department medics responded to the scene shortly afterward and pronounced all three women dead at 5:38 p.m.
Investigators believe shooting was murder-suicide
Preliminary findings indicate the incident was a double homicide and suicide, police said.
A firearm was recovered inside the residence as part of the investigation.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased women pending notification of family members.
Police also have not disclosed the relationships between the victims or provided additional details regarding what may have led to the shooting.
