Officer springs trapped fawn from tight spot before emotional reunion with mom
MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Not every police call involves flashing lights or criminal investigations. Sometimes, it involves a frightened baby deer stuck in a place it cannot escape.
Manchester Township Police Officer Kamar Gainey recently responded to an unusual call after a young fawn became trapped between a resident’s porch steps and a gutter.
After safely freeing the animal, Gainey helped reunite the baby deer with its mother nearby, bringing the incident to a happy ending.
Police used the rescue to highlight the many calls officers handle that rarely receive public attention.
The department noted that while major arrests, investigations and emergencies are often featured in annual reports, countless smaller acts of service take place throughout the year.
Officials also used the opportunity to dispel a common misconception about wildlife. Contrary to popular belief, mother deer do not abandon their fawns simply because a human has touched them.
The department praised Gainey for his quick actions and compassion during the rescue.
