Monessen couple charged after 2-year-old overdoses on cocaine and fentanyl

Monessen, PA – A Monessen couple has been charged after a two-year-old child in their care was hospitalized with a drug overdose involving cocaine and fentanyl, according to Monessen Police and Westmoreland County Detectives.

Authorities were alerted on October 4 after learning that a young child was en route to the hospital and had tested positive for both drugs. The child was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for emergency treatment.

According to police, investigators were told the child had come into contact with drugs near a residence in the city. Responding officers went to the location and made contact with Sable Ford, 36. Observing glassine baggies in plain view inside the home, police secured a search warrant and later discovered a stash of drug-related materials.

Recovered items included a blue glassine baggie, two stamp bags, a smoking pipe, a scale, several small baggies with powder residue, and a case of THC cartridges. Field testing on the residue confirmed the presence of cocaine.

Ford and her partner, Travis Holmes, were interviewed by police. Both claimed the child found a baggie in the front yard and placed it in their mouth. When the child began showing overdose symptoms and went limp, they transported the child to the hospital.

Both Ford and Holmes were arraigned and face the following charges:

  • Endangering the welfare of children
  • Criminal conspiracy
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Bail was set at $50,000 each. The child’s current condition has not been disclosed. All charges remain accusations at this stage, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
