Toms River GOP Endorses 82-Year-Old Lifelong Democrat

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Toms River Regular Republican Club, following its recent re-certification by the Ocean County GOP, has declared its support for an 82-year-old former Democrat, William Byrne, as their candidate for the upcoming election cycle.

Byrne, who switched to the Republican Party shortly before the nomination process began, was a registered Democrat from at least 2004 until his recent party change. This nomination comes amid efforts by Republicans to replace an 82-year-old lifelong Democrat, Joe Biden, in national politics.

Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore expressed his reservations about Byrne’s endorsement, stating, “He was not my choice.” Byrne faces competition from Kevin Geoghegan, a retired Toms River Police Officer and committed Republican, in the Republican Primary Election scheduled for June 4.

The Toms River Regular Republican Club praised Byrne for his two decades of residency in Holiday City, his past role as President of the Holiday City Board of Trustees, and his ongoing service as a Trustee.
