Toms River prepares for snow storm

Toms River, NJ – Sunday — Snow is set to begin falling later Sunday afternoon across Toms River, and Mayor Daniel T. Rodrick said township crews are already in position as forecasts call for heavy bands capable of rapidly covering roads and straining power lines.

“The Division of Roads and additional contracted crews are fully mobilized and prepared to keep Township roads as clear and safe as possible during the storm and our Police and Emergency Services stand ready to ensure rapid response times throughout the Township,” Rodrick said.

The mayor said he has been in contact with state officials as the storm approaches.

“I have been in contact with Governor Sherrill’s Office this morning, and they stand ready, should we need state assistance,” Rodrick said. “JCP&L has additional crews — including mutual aid from outside the immediate area — to address any potential power outages as quickly and safely as possible.”

Forecasters expect snow to begin later Sunday afternoon, with periods of heavy snowfall that could reach 1–3 inches per hour at times. Plows will operate continuously along established routes, but officials cautioned that road conditions may deteriorate quickly during heavier bursts.

“While our plows will be operating continuously along established routes, road conditions may deteriorate quickly, and it may appear that streets have not yet been serviced,” Rodrick said. “Please remain patient and avoid unnecessary travel. If you experience an emergency, contact 911 so first responders can safely reach you. Streets will not be fully cleared until snowfall tapers off.”

The storm is forecasted to produce wet, heavy snow, increasing the risk of difficult shoveling conditions and potential outages.

“This is forecasted to be a wet, heavy snow. Please use caution while shoveling and clearing driveways, and take frequent breaks to avoid overexertion. Check in on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance,” Rodrick said.

“Let’s work together to stay safe and look out for one another during this storm,” he added.
