Here are the Discontinued McDonald’s Menu Items Americans Want to See Again

TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey loves McDonald’s. With over 250 restaurants in one of America’s tiniest states, it’s safe to say the Garden State could have more McDonald’s restaurants per square mile than any other state in America.

A new study has identified the most-wanted discontinued McDonald’s menu items, with the McRib topping the list as the most searched-for item in the U.S.

The research, conducted by casino experts Plejmo, analyzed online search volumes for over 70 discontinued McDonald’s products, ranging from the McPizza to the Hula Burger. The study found that the McRib generated an average of 94,425 monthly searches, making it the most sought-after comeback item.

Despite being permanently removed from the menu in 2005, the McRib has made multiple limited-time returns, including a “farewell tour” in 2022. It is currently available at select McDonald’s locations, with prices ranging from $3.99 to $7.89.

Following the McRib, Snack Wraps ranked second in demand, with 41,950 searches per month. The item, which was discontinued in 2016, returned this year after nearly a decade off the menu.

Other items in the top five include Spicy Chicken McNuggets, the McDLT, and the Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait. Spicy Chicken McNuggets, first introduced in 2020, have made regional comebacks in cities like Phoenix and Dallas but remain unavailable nationwide. The McDLT, a 1980s-era burger featuring separate hot and cold compartments, was discontinued due to concerns over its Styrofoam packaging. The Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait, discontinued in 2020, had been a popular lower-calorie option.

Rounding out the top ten were Szechuan Sauce, the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Cinnamon Melts, Hot Mustard, and the McPizza.

Commenting on the findings, Max Dahlquist, senior content writer at Plejmo, noted that McDonald’s has offered a range of memorable items over the decades. “Since 1940, McDonald’s has offered a variety of memorable items, from fan favorites like Chicken Fajitas, McSpaghetti, and the McJordan to more unique choices such as the Catfish Sandwich, Onion Nuggets, and McStuffins,” he said.

With strong consumer demand, some discontinued McDonald’s items may have a chance at making a comeback.
