Trump calls for primary challenge against Rep. Thomas Massie

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump criticized Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) on Tuesday, calling him a “grandstander” and urging a primary challenge against him for opposing parts of his legislative agenda.

In a post on social media, Trump praised the House Freedom Caucus for blocking Democratic tax proposals but singled out Massie for criticism. “Congressman Thomas Massie, of beautiful Kentucky, is an automatic ‘NO’ vote on just about everything,” Trump wrote. “HE SHOULD BE PRIMARIED, and I will lead the charge against him.”

Trump compared Massie to former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), whom he previously targeted for defeat, saying, “He reminds me of Liz Cheney before her historic, record-breaking fall.”

Massie, known for his libertarian-leaning views, has frequently clashed with House leadership and has voted against spending bills, including past continuing resolutions.
