CUMBERLAND, Md. — Two men were arrested in separate assault incidents Saturday evening, including one involving a machete threat, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Pine Avenue after reports that a man had threatened someone with a machete. Witnesses and the victim identified the suspect as 40-year-old Leon Frank Corley. Police later recovered the weapon and took Corley into custody. He was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct, and was ordered held without bond at the Allegany Detention Center.

Later the same night, at approximately 10:44 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Baltimore Avenue for another assault. The victim on scene reported being assaulted by 37-year-old Michael Eugene Stone Jr. Officers noted visible injuries consistent with the victim’s account. Stone was arrested and transported to Central Booking, where he is awaiting a bond review. He was charged with second-degree assault.

Both men remain in custody as the cases proceed.
