Two Charged After West New York Drug Investigation, Cocaine Seized

Hudson County prosecutors say two people face narcotics and money laundering charges after investigators searched an apartment and recovered cocaine and other drugs.

WEST NEW YORK, N.J. – Two people have been arrested on drug and money laundering charges following a narcotics investigation in West New York, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

Roner Arias Ramos, 27, and Juliany Ortiz Yeje, 24, were arrested Thursday on 51st Street after an investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics and Gangs Task Force and West New York Police Department. Prosecutors said a court-authorized search of an apartment shared by the two resulted in the recovery of cocaine, promethazine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Two Face Multiple Narcotics Charges

Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said both defendants were charged with operating a narcotics facility and money laundering.

They also face charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school and possession with intent to distribute cocaine within 500 feet of public property.

Additional charges include possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute promethazine and possession of marijuana, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Arias Ramos faces additional narcotics offenses because prosecutors allege he was in possession of cocaine when he was arrested.

The prosecutor’s office did not specify the quantities of drugs allegedly recovered in the information released.

Investigators Search West New York Apartment

The arrests followed a court-authorized search of an apartment shared by Arias Ramos and Ortiz Yeje, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

“During a court-authorized search of an apartment shared by the defendants, various quantities of cocaine, promethazine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were recovered,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Members of the prosecutor’s Narcotics and Gangs Task Force conducted the investigation with the West New York Police Department.

Both defendants were arrested on 51st Street and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending their first appearances in court.

The charges are accusations and have not been proven in court. Arias Ramos and Ortiz Yeje are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
