WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American Clean Power Association (ACP) has expressed its strong approval following the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) Record of Decision for the Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind 1 and 2 projects. This significant development marks a major step forward for renewable energy off the New Jersey coast.

Anne Reynolds, ACP Vice President for Offshore Wind, praised the announcement, highlighting its importance for New Jersey’s energy future. “ACP applauds BOEM for yet another important milestone in today’s announcement of the Record of Decision for the Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project 1 and 2, which is terrific news for New Jersey,” said Reynolds. She noted that offshore wind power is crucial for strengthening the grid and providing clean electricity to meet the state’s increasing energy demands.

The approval follows an extensive environmental review and permitting process, paving the way for the realization of the Atlantic Shores South project. This project will feature two facilities capable of generating up to 2,800 megawatts of electricity, sufficient to power nearly one million homes. “The offshore wind energy industry commends the Biden Administration’s continuing commitment to this growing U.S. energy sector,” Reynolds added.

The decision represents a significant advancement in the U.S.’s efforts to increase its renewable energy capacity, positioning New Jersey as a leader in the national transition towards sustainable energy sources.
