Utica, NY – A string of criminal activities in Utica culminated in the arrest of a local man this afternoon. On July 23rd, 2024, around 3:00 PM, Utica Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Court St following a robbery report.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a victim who reported that as he was exiting an appointment, a male assailant forcibly stole items from his hand and fled the scene. Concurrently, another call reported a male attempting to hijack a vehicle. The suspect entered a vehicle, demanding the operator to drive him out of state. The vehicle owner managed to exit with the keys, leading the assailant to eventually abandon the attempted carjacking and exit the vehicle.

Officers arriving at the scene witnessed the suspect attempting to re-enter the vehicle. Upon trying to detain him, the suspect resisted but was quickly subdued. Following investigations linking him to both incidents, Travon Lang, 31, of Utica, was taken into custody.

Lang has been charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree for the robbery and attempted grand larceny in the fourth degree for the attempted carjacking. He was transported to the Utica Police Department for booking.
