Man scratches $1M ticket inside store and instantly realizes he won big
LYNCHBURG, Va. — A Virginia lottery player didn’t even leave the store before discovering he had just become a millionaire.
The anonymous winner purchased a scratch-off ticket at a 7-Eleven on Timberlake Road in Lynchburg and decided to play it immediately.
As he revealed the symbols, he quickly realized he had hit the game’s top prize.
The winning ticket came from the “In the Money” scratch-off game, which offers prizes up to $1 million.
The winner chose to take the lump sum payment of $476,000 before taxes instead of annual payments over 30 years.
Lottery officials said this marks the first top prize claimed in the game, with two $1 million prizes still remaining.
The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 408,000.
The Lynchburg store that sold the ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus.
The winner said he plans to use the money to add a pool and hot tub to his home.
