Volkswagen Jetta slams into trees, killing Oceanport driver

TINTON FALLS, N.J. — A 25-year-old man died late Sunday night after his vehicle veered off Shafto Road and struck several trees, according to the Tinton Falls Police Department.

Police were dispatched to the scene just north of West Park Avenue around 11:00 p.m. and found a white 2014 Volkswagen Jetta that had left the right side of the roadway.

The driver, identified as Robert Mendez of Oceanport, was pronounced dead at the scene.
